Big Sky Draft Horse Expo is Montana's only draft horse and mule show. Show events and classes are selected with families in mind.  Included are youth and senior events.  All skill levels are welcome and encouraged.Montana Draft Horse Expo - Events

Expo is located in historic Deer Lodge, one of the earliest communities in Montana.   There are many events and learning opportunities for those interested in the Draft horse era.  

It is no wonder that Deer Lodge, the Draft Horse Capital of Montana, is Montana's place to be in September.

The Expo Premium Book lists this year's classes and rules.

The Quilt and Carriage Show under the grandstand educates and entertains by uniquely displaying vehicles with accessories such as quilts, lap robes and foot warmers. More than 30 vehicles and implements are displayed each year.

The TRADE SHOW provides an opportunity to view and purchase items ranging from draft horse harnesses to art and books. It is always a mix of interesting items.

The Expo Barbeque and Montana Teamster Hall of Fame Reception is on Saturday evening. This fun event provides an opportunity for spectators, townspeople, and teamsters to visit and reminisce. It also provides a reception to recognize those who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Music and dancing are a part of this fun evening.

The week preceding Expo is filled with Montana's Academy of Living History workshops. Hands on learning from sewing historical garments, making cowboy quilts and Dutch oven cooking to workingdraft horses and building carts are available. Many evening presentations are given on such topics as early trails, local history, and working with horses and mules.

Friday evening of Expo week is the HOT DOGS and HISTORY camp fire at Grant Kohrs Ranch. This free family program provides both young an old to enjoy cooking a hot dog on an open fire while learning some draft era history.
